Stripe is in advanced talks to acquire OpenRouter, an AI model marketplace, for approximately $10 billion. Founded in New York in 2023, OpenRouter provides access to over 500 large language models from more than 60 providers, processing trillions of tokens monthly for millions of developers. The company’s valuation jumped from $1.3 billion in May 2026 to $10 billion currently, a sevenfold increase in three months. Stripe, which already processes payments for OpenRouter, seeks to control the billing and routing layer in the AI space. No agreement has been finalized yet, with discussions currently exclusive.
