Abu Dhabi’s sovereign funds, Mubadala and Abu Dhabi Investment Council, maintained their unchanged positions in BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) during the second quarter of 2025, holding 22.94 million shares for a $764 million exposure. This strategy resulted in an approximately $118 million loss in reported value, as their combined holdings were valued at $881.4 million at the end of March versus $764 million at the end of June. Bitcoin declined approximately 29% year-to-date, falling from $88,700 to $62,900, driving a 27.6% drop in IBIT over the same period. This decision by Abu Dhabi reflects a broader strategy of institutional presence in digital assets, encompassing regulation, venture capital investments and tokenization infrastructure.
