The Constitutional Council struck down on August 14 Article 1 of the law banning social media access for under-15s, ruling it an excessive restriction on freedom of expression and communication. Adopted by Parliament on July 21, the law was set to take effect on September 1. Seized by over sixty La France insoumise deputies, the Council found the text failed to distinguish platforms with genuine risks from those without, and allowed no parental exceptions. The ruling cancels the obligation for platforms to block access for under-15s, but the rest of the law, including the digital curfew for 15-18 year olds, remains in force.
