Meta launched Scam Alert, an optional AI-powered feature on WhatsApp, in limited beta on August 12, 2026. The tool uses on-device machine learning to analyze incoming messages from non-contacts and flag suspicious content without sending any data to Meta’s servers. Users can then block the sender, report them, or continue the conversation. In 2025, Meta removed over 159 million scam ads and millions of accounts linked to criminal operations, while WhatsApp took down nearly 7 million accounts tied to various scam centers in the first half of 2026.
