Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24, 2026. The new model generates responses that are significantly longer, more detailed, and more structurally complex than its predecessor Opus 4.8. It features a 1 million token context window and a maximum output capacity of 128,000 tokens. Its pricing remains identical to Opus 4.8 at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, while delivering near-Fable 5 performance at roughly half the cost. This increased verbosity results in higher costs for API users, who must now explicitly request brevity.
