Chelsea have signed Spanish left back Pep Chavarría from Rayo Vallecano for a total package worth 21 million euros, including 19 million euros fixed and 2 million euros in performance-related add-ons. At 28 years old, Chavarría has accumulated over 105 La Liga appearances and replaces Marc Cucurella, who left for Real Madrid for approximately 60 million euros. The left back had a contract running until 2030 with his former club, which explains the relatively high fee despite his limited profile in Europe. This transfer is Chelsea’s ninth arrival of the summer window under Xabi Alonso.
