The BIP-110 soft fork failed to activate on Bitcoin after receiving support from only 51 out of the required 1,109 blocks, representing 2.53 percent against the necessary 55 percent threshold. On August 8 at block 961,632, a chain split occurred when AntPool mined a block without signaling BIP-110, with the competing branch producing only 2 blocks compared to over 130 for the main chain. The BIP-110 branch represented just 0.15 percent of Bitcoin’s hashrate. Following this failure, the Knots camp accuses major mining pools of coordinating their rejection and is now considering changing the Proof of Work algorithm to make SHA-256d ASICs unusable on its network. Luke Dashjr launched a poll on Discord to determine whether the next fork should resume from the BIP-110 branch or start from the Bitcoin Core chain on September 1.
