Rob Hamilton, founder of Bitcoin Red Team and CEO of AnchorWatch, announced he is switching back to Chinese open-source AI models after being denied access to OpenAI tools for analyzing security vulnerabilities in the Bitcoin ecosystem. The volunteer group has identified 1,288 critical and high-level vulnerabilities in open-source Bitcoin-related projects, largely following the Coldcard hardware wallet hack that resulted in over $100 million in Bitcoin being stolen. Hamilton criticized the restrictions imposed on defenders, stating that malicious actors will not adhere to these same limitations while security researchers engaged in harm reduction are left on the sidelines.
