A proposal to increase the XRP Ledger transaction Memo field limit by 1,200 times, from 1 KB to approximately 1.3 MB, has sparked a heated technical debate in the crypto community. This initiative, led notably by Vet from the XRPL Foundation, would allow users to embed images, PDFs, music files, videos and source code directly into the ledger. Matt Hamilton, former developer relations director at Ripple, publicly criticized the project, calling it a « really bad idea. » He warned of exponential database growth, increased hardware requirements for validators and a risk of network centralization. The expert recommends using specialized decentralized storage networks like Filecoin for large files, to preserve XRP Ledger as a fast and lightweight payment tool.
