Bybit secured a preliminary injunction in U.S. court blocking certain assets linked to the $1.46 billion hack attributed to North Korea and the Lazarus Group. The attack, which occurred on February 21, 2025, represents the largest crypto theft on record, with only $85.9 million (5.9%) frozen or recovered in the early days through industry coordination. Chainalysis reports that over $1 billion had already moved through the laundering pipeline in just 45 days, before any legal action could be taken. The lawsuit targeting North Korea, the Reconnaissance General Bureau, and Lazarus Group aims to establish accountability, but recovery prospects remain highly uncertain, 17 months after the hack.
