Russia’s FSB has charged Telegram founder Pavel Durov with aiding terrorist activity under Article 205.1 of the Russian Criminal Code, accusing the platform of serving as a conduit for Ukrainian intelligence agencies and extremist organizations. The charges carry a possible life imprisonment sentence and have resulted in an international arrest warrant for Durov, who holds dual French and Emirati citizenship. Rosfinmonitoring, Russia’s financial monitoring agency, added Durov to the official list of terrorists and extremists, effectively freezing any assets he may hold under Russian jurisdiction. Telegram responded defiantly by posting an image of Durov making an obscene gesture toward Moscow.
