Solar stocks shine after Trump extends China tariffs to polysilicon products

U.S. solar stocks jumped in premarket trading Friday after President Donald Trump imposed new 15% tariffs on polysilicon products from China. First Solar shares rose 8%, Solaredge Technologies gained 2.4% and the Invesco Solar ETF added 1.4% ahead of the market open. The tariffs, implemented under Section 232 of the 1962 Trade Expansion Act, aim to protect U.S. solar supply chains from Chinese competition. Trump stated that for decades, foreign countries have weakened U.S. producers in the polysilicon sector, and that these measures are intended to revitalize the American polysilicon industry for economic and national security purposes.
