US Federal Reserve balance sheet reaches $6.7T as of August 5

The Federal Reserve’s total assets stood at $6.749 trillion as of August 5, holding steady in a narrow range since quantitative tightening ended in December 2025. The balance sheet peaked at roughly $8.9 trillion in 2022 before contracting to approximately $6.5 trillion. Current composition includes roughly $4.2 trillion in Treasury securities and $2.1 trillion in mortgage-backed securities. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh established an independent task force in June, co-led by Mervyn King and Raghuram Rajan, to review the ample-reserves framework, which could impact liquidity available for risk assets and the crypto market.
