Slovakia recorded its hottest day on record on Wednesday, with 41.4 degrees Celsius in the town of Kamenica nad Hronom, breaking a heat record for the third time this year. The country had already set records on June 29 and 30, with 41.0 degrees in Turna nad Bodvou and 41.3 degrees in the same town of Kamenica nad Hronom. Austria also broke its all-time high with 41.2 degrees Celsius measured in Bad Deutsch-Altenburg, near the Slovak border. The night before was the hottest on record as well, with 28.4 degrees in Skalica. The Czech Republic and Hungary had already set their all-time highs earlier this summer, amid accelerated warming in Europe where temperatures are rising twice as fast as the global average since the 1980s.
