TSMC confirmed that its JASM fab in Kumamoto, Japan, has returned to full production capacity after a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck the prefecture on July 28. Inspections confirmed no major structural damage, employees were safe, and equipment calibration was completed. The fab accounts for less than 3% of TSMC’s total production capacity. JASM began commercial production at the end of 2024, currently producing roughly 55,000 12-inch wafers per month. Total investment in the joint venture exceeds $20 billion, with backing from the Japanese government and partners including Sony, DENSO, and Toyota.
