A cryptocurrency user known as @cprkrn recovered 5 BTC (approximately $400,000) after being locked out of their wallet for more than eleven years. Anthropic’s Claude AI analyzed local files on the user’s computer and identified a critical bug in btcrecover, the open-source recovery software he had been using for years. The bug affected how the software combined shared keys and passwords, causing the failure of 3.5 trillion password combinations tested. Once the bug was fixed, the correct password combination finally worked, opening the wallet. This recovery demonstrates the potential of AI tools to analyze old files and identify bugs in security software, without compromising Bitcoin’s fundamental cryptography.
