Capital One closes Trump Organization’s accounts after anti-money laundering probe

Capital One confirmed closing more than 300 bank accounts linked to the Trump Organization in 2021 following an extensive anti-money laundering review. These accounts reportedly held millions of dollars across various Trump-linked entities. In March 2025, the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust and Eric Trump filed a lawsuit alleging that Capital One engaged in politically motivated debanking. Capital One defended its decision as a regulatory compliance exercise rather than a political one. This exclusion from traditional finance has pushed the Trump Organization to accelerate its diversification into digital assets, including NFT collections and broader blockchain-related business interests.
