Small firms are replacing Salesforce and HubSpot with custom AI tools built for pennies on the dollar

Greenleaf Management, a 55-person real estate firm in Atlanta, replaced Salesforce with a custom application built using Replit and Anthropic’s Claude Code, saving roughly $100,000 per year. Atonom, a 45-person Utah startup, swapped a $40,000 annual Salesforce contract for a CRM built with Lovable, costing approximately $1,200 per year, a 97% reduction. The Seattle Seawolves, a 70-person professional rugby team, replaced their Salesforce CRM and AXS ticketing system in four months, cutting roughly $100,000 in software spending and increasing revenue by 25% since March 2026. Gartner estimates $234 billion, roughly 20% of total enterprise application software spend, is exposed to agentic AI-driven replacement by 2030. The risk for established vendors concentrates in the mid-market and SMB segments, where contract sizes are smaller but churn now has a credible, lower-cost alternative attached to it.
