Douglas Luiz nears confirmation of Juventus stay after turbulent two-year saga

Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz, recruited by Juventus from Aston Villa for 50 million euros in June 2024, appears to be staying at the Italian club after two difficult seasons. New Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti plans to use Luiz in a regista role, a deep-lying playmaker who dictates the tempo from the base of midfield. Luiz scored in a 2-0 pre-season friendly victory against Nice on July 31, a performance that revived his standing at the club. Financially, Juventus prefers to keep him rather than sell him at a loss, given that his market value has significantly decreased due to his lack of consistent playing time. The Brazilian international publicly stated his intention to stay: « Juve, I want to stay and show you I’m worth 50 million euros. »
