Coldcard Mk3 Users Warned of Risk After 594 BTC Swept From 500 Addresses

Canadian company Coinkite, maker of Coldcard hardware wallets, has warned users following the theft of 594.5 BTC, worth approximately $38 million, from 500 addresses. The issue affects Mk3 firmware versions since 4.1.0, released in March 2021, which generated only 72 bits of entropy instead of the expected 128 bits. Mk4, Mk5, and Q models are also affected by versions prior to 5.6.0 and 1.5.0Q. The company recommends affected users migrate their funds to a newly generated seed on an unaffected device. Bitcoin’s price remained unaffected by the incident, continuing to trade near $64,000.
