This approach enables certain AI tasks to run directly on devices using Apple chips, reducing cloud infrastructure costs. Apple spent $2.46 billion in capital expenditures in the second quarter, far below the $100 billion or more committed by Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft this year. The updated Siri, expected this fall, will use the iPhone processor for simple queries, while complex tasks like image generation will be handled via Google Cloud. Apple plans to monetize this technology by offering paid options through iCloud+ for heavy users.
