Meta Platforms and Microsoft diverge on AI profitability as Big Tech capex soars past $600B

Microsoft posted quarterly revenue of roughly $90 billion, an 18% year-over-year increase, sending its stock up 8%. Meta reported $60.8 billion in revenue, with faster 28% growth, but its shares dropped 10% as profits fell 14% to $15.85 billion due to heavy infrastructure spending. Microsoft’s AI business within Azure hit a $37 billion annual run rate, up 123% year-over-year. Meta projects 2026 capital expenditure between $115 and $135 billion. AI-related capex across the major tech companies is expected to surge approximately 70%, rising from roughly $381 billion in 2025 to a projected $635 to $665 billion in 2026.
