British AI cloud provider Nscale announced on July 30 the acquisition of Anyscale for approximately $1.65 billion. Anyscale is the commercial company behind Ray, the open-source distributed computing framework developed at UC Berkeley, which orchestrates AI workloads (data processing, model training, inference, and reinforcement learning) and could reportedly reduce deployment costs by up to 90% in some cases. Nscale, which already owns its own data centers and power generation infrastructure, will integrate approximately 200 Anyscale employees. The deal is expected to close in H2 2026 pending regulatory approvals, creating a fully vertically integrated AI platform from electricity to software.
