Gaming company Gumi and financial giant SBI have jointly launched SBI Crypto Fund I, an investment vehicle targeting Bitcoin and major altcoins with a target size of 3 billion yen (approximately $18.3 million). The fund, which began operations on August 1, 2026, will be structured through SBI Crypto Fund LLC, with SBI Financial Services holding 51% and Gumi’s subsidiary gC Labs owning the remaining 49%, with additional investment from Daiwa Securities Group and Yamada Securities Group. Gumi has built a cryptocurrency treasury of approximately 14 billion yen ($86 million) as of April 30, 2026, and aims to become Japan’s largest XRP treasury company. The notable participation of Daiwa, one of Japan’s largest securities firms, signals that the fund has passed significant institutional due diligence as the country gradually opens its doors to institutional cryptocurrency investments.
