Stocks and bonds see wild ‘Fed Day’ swings as Wall Street’s ‘crash cushion’ evaporates

Wall Street endured a massive selloff on Wednesday during a particularly volatile Federal Reserve decision day, with new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh presiding over his first meeting. Major equity indexes recorded their worst ‘Fed Day’ performance since December 2024, while the 30-year bond yield surged higher. The dollar finished down 0.5%, erasing all of its gains from earlier in the month based on the ICE U.S. Dollar Index (DXY).
