CME Group is bringing futures and options to professional sports, and it’s not as weird as it sounds

CME Group, the world’s largest derivatives exchange, has partnered with FanDuel to launch FanDuel Predicts, a CFTC-regulated sports event contracts platform. CME invested $10.2 million for a 51% controlling stake in the joint venture, targeting states where legal online sports betting does not yet exist. The platform, covering professional and college sports outcomes, circumvents state gambling laws by operating under CFTC jurisdiction. By June 2026, integration with Nadex, operated by Crypto.com, is planned to expand into the crypto prediction market ecosystem. CME, which handles approximately $6 billion in daily notional volume across its existing products, is entering a market now dominated by Polymarket and Kalshi.
