A U.S. labor union and two female correctional officers at a federal prison in Louisiana filed a lawsuit against the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for indefinitely suspending proceedings in all federal-sector class complaints. The action targets the halt of their sexual harassment case, in which at least 182 women allege they were subjected to sexual harassment by inmates at a federal correctional complex in Louisiana. The women, Deanna Chelette and Alexzandria Boyd, backed by the largest union representing federal workers (AFGE), say the suspension has left them without recourse and emboldened further misconduct. The plaintiffs’ attorneys say they are representing at least five other stalled class complaints, including cases against the FBI and the Department of Defense, and are seeking to have the suspension order vacated.
