Since 2022, 87% of VCs have disappeared: how to explain the death of the crypto market?

The number of active venture capital investors in crypto dropped to 150 in July 2026, down from 1,177 at the peak in March 2022, representing a decline of approximately 87.3%. Crypto projects raised a total of $11.78 billion in 2026, with monthly fundraisings ranging between $690 million and $4 billion. Only 44 deals were announced in July 2026, including 41 fundraisings, 2 M&A operations, and 1 debt financing. The platforms BitMEX and BitMart announced their closure in September and gradual shutdown by January 2027 respectively, illustrating the ongoing purge in the VC-funded crypto industry.
