SEC Chairman Paul Atkins wants to make going public less painful for young companies

SEC Chairman Paul Atkins has launched an initiative called « Make IPOs Great Again » to reverse the 40% decline in the number of publicly traded US companies since the mid-1990s. The reform proposes a new optional reporting framework via Form 10-S, allowing companies to file semiannually instead of quarterly 10-Q reports to reduce compliance costs. The SEC proposed these rules in May 2026, with the comment period closing on July 27, 2026. The agenda rests on three pillars: refocusing disclosures on materiality, depoliticizing shareholder meetings, and providing alternatives to frivolous litigation. For crypto investors, this initiative does not directly concern digital assets, as they are not mentioned in the proposed agenda.
