Google expands Gemini API Managed Agents with background execution, MCP integration, and custom function calling

Share

Google updated its Gemini API managed agents with Gemini 3.6 Flash as the default model, along with new features including environment hooks, token budget controls, and scheduled triggers. The hooks allow developers to execute custom scripts before or after an agent uses a tool, with the ability to block certain actions or automatically verify generated outputs. Token budget controls limit total consumption for autonomous tasks and enable resuming execution later from the same sandbox environment. Managed agents are now available through the Gemini API free tier, allowing developers to test agentic workflows without charges. The OffDeal AI investment banking platform is already using these features to verify company logos before inserting them into presentation materials.
