Nvidia discloses large commitments to tech firms, raising investor concerns about capital allocation

Nvidia has invested $5 billion in Safe Superintelligence Inc., the AI startup co-founded by Ilya Sutskever, the former chief scientist at OpenAI. The deal, disclosed on July 27, gives SSI preferential access to Nvidia’s next-generation Vera Rubin AI computing platform. The startup is reportedly valued at approximately $32 billion. Nvidia has also entered a $2 billion partnership with Coherent in June 2026 and a multi-hundred-billion-dollar initiative with SK Group focused on AI infrastructure. Investors are questioning the return profile of these massive commitments and expressing concerns about the strategic implications of these moves.
