UPS turns the page as job cuts and Amazon ‘glide down’ are completed

UPS beat earnings and sales expectations in the second quarter, sending its stock higher. The package-delivery giant booked a charge of nearly $900 million for severance costs. CEO Carol Tomé described the quarterly results as an expected and significant shift in the company’s performance, as the Amazon glide down strategy, launched 18 months ago, and the early-retirement program started last year were completed during the quarter.
