He argued that crypto serves as infrastructure supporting AI rather than competing with it, and that AI agents will need « real time programmable money » to transact. Armstrong dubbed this vision « Agentic Finance, » or AiFi, months after Coinbase cut 14% of its workforce to become « AI-native. » The exchange’s USDC stablecoin already powers the « vast majority » of agentic payments through the x402 protocol and its Base blockchain.
