Vasant Dhar left academia in 1994 to bring artificial intelligence to Wall Street, founding SCT Capital, one of the first hedge funds entirely driven by machine-driven trading algorithms. Now a professor at NYU Stern School of Business and the NYU Center for Data Science, he continues his research on AI governance and the question of when people should trust machines over their own judgment. His firm’s algorithms still trade markets every day. Despite pioneering AI-driven finance, Dhar refuses to trust his money to tools like ChatGPT.
