CATL shares surge after buyback plan and strong earnings signal battery giant’s dominance

CATL, the world’s largest EV battery maker, posted first-half 2026 net profit of 43.28 billion yuan, a 41.98% year-over-year surge. Revenue reached 276.92 billion yuan, climbing 54.8% compared to the same period last year. Energy storage sales surged 87.54%, nearly double the power battery growth rate of 46.02%. The company simultaneously announced a share buyback plan worth between 20 and 40 billion yuan, potentially retiring approximately 1.51% of its total share capital. Shenzhen-listed shares jumped on the news, reinforcing CATL’s dominance in the global battery market.
