Ukraine’s Zelenskiy says Russia has readied 30,000 North Korean troops for Voronezh deployment

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on July 25 that Russia has been preparing to receive 30,000 additional North Korean troops in the Voronezh region since June, marking a significant escalation in the military partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang. This deployment would build on 14,000 to 15,000 North Korean soldiers already sent to Russia during 2024-2025 to support operations around Kursk Oblast. Zelenskiy also provided Russian casualty estimates from January through July 2026, totaling approximately 222,500, with 131,000 killed and 93,000 wounded, and indicated that North Korea plans to supply additional ballistic missile launchers. North Korea’s state-sponsored hacking operations have stolen more than $6 billion in digital assets, raising questions about its geopolitical strategy in the crypto ecosystem. Historically, war-related geopolitical developments have produced only muted effects on digital asset prices.
