NAVER, South Korea’s dominant search and tech platform, is expanding its GAK Sejong AI data center from 55 to 200 megawatts of power by 2028. The combined investment totals approximately $10 billion, with $1 billion from NVIDIA and up to $9 billion from Canadian asset manager Brookfield Asset Management. The first 55 MW phase is scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2027, expanding to 100 MW later that year and reaching full 200 MW capacity by 2028. The facility will run NVIDIA’s latest AI platforms, including the Vera Rubin and Blackwell architectures. This project represents a sovereign AI strategy aimed at giving South Korea ownership and control over its own AI computing infrastructure, with a longer-term vision of reaching gigawatt-scale capacity.
