EigenLayer is currently debating ELIP-018, a draft proposal introducing the RETIRE framework (Retirement Enabling Terminal, Irreversible Restaking Exit). This framework aims to provide restakers with a definitive and irreversible exit route from certain restaking positions without triggering unnecessary slashing mechanics. The proposal remains in draft stage and has not been implemented or approved by the DAO. It addresses a growing challenge in the restaking ecosystem: the increasing complexity of obligations between stakers, operators, and AVSs makes exits harder to manage. The discussion shows the ecosystem is taking exit mechanisms seriously, viewing them as equally important as deposits for long-term trust.
