US PPI cools, jobless claims rise, impacting Fed rate hike expectations

The U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) fell 0.1% in August, reversing a 0.7% increase the previous month. Initial jobless claims rose to 199,000, slightly above expectations. These economic indicators are fueling uncertainty about an imminent Fed rate hike. The probability of a rate hike at the September 2026 FOMC meeting has dropped to 32.5%, down from 44% a week earlier. The Fed’s upcoming September and October meetings will be crucial for monetary policy direction.
