Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) carried out drone strikes against Russia’s Vladimir Filanovsky offshore oil platform in the northern Caspian Sea between December 9 and 11, 2025. The platform was hit at least four times, halting production from more than 20 wells operated by Lukoil. This marks the first confirmed Ukrainian strike on Russian offshore oil infrastructure in the Caspian Sea. The platform, which processed around 120,000 barrels per day, holds estimated reserves of 129 million tons of oil and 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The attack extended the reach of Ukraine’s long-range campaign to energy assets situated 700 to 900 kilometers from active combat zones, targeting infrastructure that funds Russia’s military operations.
