UAE reports Iran attacked ADNOC vessel with missile in Strait of Hormuz

The UAE reported that Iran launched a missile at an ADNOC-affiliated vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz on August 8, 2026, with no casualties reported. This attack marks at least the 16th assault on ADNOC vessels since February 28, 2026, bringing the human toll to one crew member dead and 20 injured. The Strait of Hormuz, barely 21 miles wide at its narrowest point, handles roughly 20% of all seaborne oil and liquefied natural gas. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and the Gulf Cooperation Council all condemned the attack, with the UAE directly blaming Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Insurance premiums and freight rates for tankers operating in the Gulf have started rising in response to this sustained campaign.
