The strikes targeted the city’s port and state-run telecommunications corporation, escalating tensions over vital shipping routes. The Red Sea escalation further threatens global trade as the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, through which roughly 12% of world trade and a quarter of container traffic pass, could be closed to Saudi-linked shipping. U.S. Central Command remained silent Saturday, breaking a streak of 13 consecutive nights of strikes on Iran, though tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz.
