The Supreme Court struck down in February the sweeping tariffs imposed by Donald Trump in March 2025 under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Approximately $100 billion in tariffs have been refunded to companies that paid them under the system set up by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Carriers FedEx, UPS and DHL are currently redistributing these refunds to their customers, with FedEx already beginning to return $800 million. The actual impact on consumers remains limited, however, as tariffs represented an average tax increase of $1,000 per U.S. household in 2025. More than 80 class-action lawsuits have been filed against retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Costco and Nike to recover price increases linked to the tariffs.
