Trump tries again to fire Fed governor Lisa Cook after narrow Supreme Court decision, renewing battle over central bank independence

The Trump administration is proceeding with its attempt to fire Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, two months after the Supreme Court ruled she could keep her job while challenging her dismissal. The justices, in a narrow 5-4 decision, said Cook could remain in her post at least until her lawsuit is resolved. The administration is appealing a lower-court ruling in Cook’s favor. The allegations, made by Federal Housing Finance Agency director Bill Pulte, accuse Cook of mortgage fraud for declaring two homes as primary residence to secure better loan terms. Cook, nominated to the Fed by Joe Biden, denies the accusations and argues they are a pretext for removing her after she refused to yield to political pressure on interest rate decisions.
