Trump ties Saudi nuclear deal to Abraham Accords, adding new wildcard to Middle East diplomacy

President Trump announced on July 23 that the US-Saudi civilian nuclear cooperation agreement is conditioned on Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords, a prerequisite absent from the initial framework. The agreement explicitly prohibits uranium enrichment, imposing stricter conditions on Saudi Arabia than the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. This condition transforms a bilateral energy agreement into a trilateral geopolitical negotiation involving Israel as well. Saudi Arabia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund, manages approximately $930 billion in assets and has shown interest in blockchain infrastructure and digital assets as part of Vision 2030.
