Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, announced the integration of a native non-custodial crypto wallet called Gram into all Telegram applications starting this summer. The feature would be deployed to the platform’s user base of over one billion people, making it one of the largest consumer-facing blockchain integrations ever attempted. Telegram had previously attempted a cryptocurrency venture with the TON (Telegram Open Network) project and the Gram token, raising approximately $1.7 billion in 2018 before abandoning it in 2020 as part of a settlement with the US SEC. The new wallet promises instant, fee-free transactions, though technical details and supported assets have yet to be announced.
