Stripe’s $53B PayPal Bid Would Combine Bridge and PYUSD Under One Owner

Stripe and private-equity firm Advent International submitted an unsolicited joint offer to buy PayPal for $60.50 per share, valuing the company at over $53 billion, representing a roughly 28% premium over the July 14 closing price. The acquisition would combine Stripe’s Bridge stablecoin infrastructure, purchased for $1.1 billion, with PayPal’s PYUSD token, which has approximately $2.83 billion in circulation according to DefiLlama, along with its crypto trading services. The merged entity would give over 400 million consumers access to cryptocurrency through traditional payment rails, as both companies have developed distinct stablecoin strategies. The offer remains conditional on PayPal’s board approval, expected as soon as July 20, and will face antitrust regulatory scrutiny given the combined market share.
