South Korea stablecoin outflows hit $10.4B, rivaling the country’s overseas stock investments

Data from South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service shows that net stablecoin outflows from the country’s five major crypto exchanges reached $10.4 billion (approximately 14.92 trillion won) between January 2025 and June 2026. This figure now rivals the total overseas stock investments made by South Korean investors during the same period. The active user ratio across these five platforms dropped from 35.7% to 19.5%, while over 400,000 KYC-verified users stopped trading entirely since March 2026. Total virtual assets held by domestic investors fell by 54.7% over the same period, prompting lawmakers to call for a won-pegged stablecoin to stem capital flight.
