ShieldFont, an open-source font created by Isaque Seneda and Gabriel Abrucio, allows publishers to protect their content against AI scraping. The font exploits glyph substitution to display readable text to human visitors while embedding mangled words in the HTML code that scrapers read. Approximately 24.4% of all words are substituted, representing 45.8% of content words, which sufficiently corrupts datasets to make them unusable. Over 90% of pages using ShieldFont are detected and rejected by automated quality filters, and conceptual accuracy in model reconstructions drops by up to 67%. The project, developed since October 2025 in collaboration with Danish type foundry Playtype, includes integration tools and supports screen readers for visually impaired users.
