Sébastien Pocognoli, a 39-year-old Belgian coach, has emerged as the leading candidate to manage the Scottish national football team. The Scottish Football Association is expected to confirm his appointment as early as the week of August 17, 2026. If finalized, Pocognoli would become only the second foreign manager in modern Scottish football history, following Berti Vogts who held the position from 2002 to 2004. A former left-back with 13 senior caps for Belgium, he guided Union Saint-Gilloise to their first Belgian Pro League title in 90 years during his first season as senior manager, earning him the Belgian Coach of the Year award. His immediate task will be preparing Scotland for the UEFA Nations League campaign beginning in late September 2026.
